The Ultimate Gift Guide For the Avid Hiker in Your Life

We've compiled the ultimate hiking gift guide to help you shop for your outdoorsy loved ones

Because scouring the internet for shop-worthy must-haves is a large part of my job, it can be challenging for my loved ones to shop for me. As someone who loves being outside, I would generally rather take a hike with a friend than receive a gift from them. However, there are a few things I’d probably put on my gift list to cater to my outdoor hobbies. From solar-powered string lights to trekking poles, there are a number of things I could use on the trails and while camping.

If you know someone like me, shower that outdoorsy loved one in gear, camping games and more. I promise they’ll love everything on this list.

Gift Ideas for Your Outdoorsy Loved Ones

  • Sweet Dreams: Turn your campsite into a literal fairytale with solar-powered string lights. After just eight hours under the sun, they can shine for up to eight hours at full brightness.
  • Sip It: Stay hydrated wherever you go, with a LifeStraw. This personal water filter is great for hiking and camping, especially in emergencies. Plus, it’s less than $20, so it’s a great addition to a larger present or as a stocking stuffer.
  • Trek On: Even though trekking poles might seem like they’re for “old people,” they do so much more than add support. They help increase your stability (which is especially helpful on mixed terrain), and they help maintain your endurance. TBH, everyone could use a pair of these.
  • Light Up: Every outdoors enthusiast can use a set of LED headlamps. They’re both waterproof and battery-powered, so you won’t have to worry about relying on any chargers.
  • Stylish and Practical: Obviously, you can simply hike in your old gym clothes. But hiking pants are lightweight and oftentimes, quick-dry. Plus, these hiking joggers are super cute and flattering—your bestie will thank you for many cute summit pics to come.
  • Clean Up: While biodegradable body wipes don’t seem that exciting, they’re tantalizing to your sis who enjoys a few days on the trail. ‘Nuff said.
  • Toolbox: Your dad won’t go anywhere without his multitool carabiner. It’s equipped with folding knives, a bottle opener, a window breaker and a screwdriver. Plus, it comes in so many fun colors.
  • Hydrate: Electrolyte tablets are great whether you’re hiking or simply the day after drinking. They can dissolve in water, but they’re also chewable, if you’re lacking water.
  • Sit Back and Relax: Who doesn’t love a comfortable camping chair? This one is made for backpacking, so it’s super compact and lightweight. Honestly, I need one for myself!
  • Bird-Watching: The bird enthusiast in your life would love nothing more than a pair of pocket binoculars. And at less than $15, Poldr’s are incredibly well-priced.
  • Spike It: Give your car camping friend the gift of Spike Ball. Similar to four square, it’s a competitive game that simply requires speed, hand-eye coordination and a competitive edge. It’ll be your new go-to game.
  • Inspire Them: Chances are, Wild will really strike a chord with your outdoorsy loved ones (if they haven’t already read it, that is). The memoir, by Cheryl Strayed, takes readers on her journey of hiking the PCT and healing from the death of her mother.
