I Tried Cook Unity for 3 Weeks—Here’s What I Loved (and What I Didn’t)

Cook Unity promises restaurant-quality meals delivered to your door

Between my wife’s and my demanding work schedules, cooking at home is often quite the chore. Sure, we all know that cooking is healthier and cheaper than takeout, but after a long day, I just want an easy, satisfying meal without the hassle of prep and cleanup.

That’s what led me to try Cook Unity, a chef-curated meal delivery service that kept popping up during my research. The company promises fully prepared, restaurant-quality meals delivered straight to your door.

I tried it for three weeks, and overall, I’m impressed. We’ve saved money on groceries, cut back on takeout and enjoyed a wide variety of meals. With that in mind, it wasn’t all perfect—there were a couple of misses along the way. Here’s my full review with Cook Unity, including the likes, dislikes and whether I’d recommend it.

  • Note: We earn a commission if you sign up through our links, but I paid for my meals out of pocket. Cook Unity didn’t sponsor this post or provide free samples. I did, however, use their 60% off first week + 20% off next two weeks promotion.

Cook Unity Introductory Offer

While many meal delivery services offer heavy discounts when you sign up, Cook Unity’s introductory offers are quite generous. When I signed up in late June, the brand offered me 60% off my first week, and then 20% off the next three weeks. I only took advantage of three weeks total, though.

Currently, Cook Unity has a lower but still very good promotion of 50% off your first week and 10% off the next three weeks. These discounts seem to rotate throughout the year, so always check with Cook Unity for current pricing and promotions.

Current Promotion

  • 50% off your first week
  • 10% off your next three weeks
  • $9.99 delivery fee (per week) applies to all orders

What is Cook Unity? (How It Works)

Cook Unity is a meal delivery service featuring chef-crafted meals that are fully cooked and ready to heat. After signing up (usually with a discount), you select your meals each week based on your region and dietary preferences.

Available dietary filters

  • GLP-1 Balanced
  • Low-Calorie (under 600 calories)
  • Low-Carb
  • Gluten-Free
  • Paleo
  • Keto
  • Dairy-Free
  • Low Sodium
  • Seafood
  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan
  • Beef
  • Poultry

You can choose 4 to 16 meals per week. We went with 8 meals—enough for four dinners between the two of us. Cook Unity charges your card on Sundays, so you’ll need to skip or cancel before then if you don’t want the next box.

Meals arrive fresh (not frozen) in insulated freezer bags with ice packs, typically once a week (ours came on Wednesdays). The meals last about a week in the fridge, but you can freeze them if needed—though Cook Unity recommends eating them fresh.

You can reheat most meals in the microwave or oven (we used our Tovala oven), and soups are best heated on the stove. For best results, Cook Unity recommends using an oven to reheat meals.

  • One cool feature: Cook Unity will collect the insulated bag and ice packs when delivering your next order—a nice sustainability touch.

The “chef-to-you” difference

A specific Cook Unity chef crafts each meal, and you can view their profiles in the app or on the website. This personal touch makes the experience feel more thoughtful and less mass-produced than typical pre-made meal services.

Cook Unity Pricing

Pricing depends on how many meals you order weekly—the more meals, the lower the per-meal cost. With 8 meals per week, we paid $12.68 per meal. That’s comparable to fast food prices here in California.

Here’s what we paid:

  • First Week (60% off promo): $50.57 including $9.99 delivery
  • Next Two Weeks (20% off promo): $91.14 including $9.99 delivery

There are premium meals that cost extra, but I didn’t try them during my test. Even after buying snacks, sparkling water and smoothie ingredients at the grocery store, we spent $20 to $40 less per week than usual.

Here’s what you can expect to pay per week with the current promotion and after:

What I Loved About Cook Unity

  • Affordability: With promos, it’s cheaper than groceries or takeout.
  • Taste and Quality: Most meals tasted restaurant-quality. Everything was fresh with high-quality ingredients.
  • Convenience: Super easy to store, reheat and eat.
  • Variety: Lots of meal choices, including cuisines I don’t usually cook (South American, Asian).
  • Packaging and Sustainability: Compostable/recyclable materials, reusable freezer bags.
  • Standout Dishes: We loved the California-Style Enchiladas, Mediterranean Pita Smash Burger, Mission Style Beef Burrito and Peruvian Fried Rice. The soups—like Bacon Corn Chowder and Pork & Shrimp Dumpling Soup—were also hits with my wife.

What I Didn’t Love

  • Portion Sizes: Most were fine, but a few meals felt small. This may be good if you’re watching calories, and my wife and I have both lost weight using Cook Unity.
  • Meal Consistency: A couple of meals (like the Chicken Katsu Curry and Chicken Schnitzel) were disappointing. The breading didn’t stay crisp, and the schnitzels were inconsistent between portions.
  • Subscription Model: Not a fan of automatic weekly billing. Even after skipping weeks, Cook Unity nearly charged me again. Cancellation is simple, but the subscription model might feel aggressive to some.

Customer Service and Cancellation

I tested customer support by contacting them via text and email—responses came within 30 minutes via text and under 4 hours via email. No phone support (yet), but the agents were helpful.

Cancelling was refreshingly easy compared to other services I’ve tried. Just go to your account settings and click “Cancel Account.” No endless email chains, hidden links or having to come to the physical location to cancel (I’m looking at you, Planet Fitness).

  • Tip: You might get a discount offer when you try to cancel (they offered me 40% off the next two weeks). So if you want to save, threaten to cancel occasionally, like I do with my internet provider.

Final Thoughts: Who is Cook Unity Best For?

Cook Unity isn’t for everyone, but it’s an excellent fit for busy professionals, couples without kids or anyone who wants restaurant-quality meals without the hassle of cooking. If you enjoy variety and appreciate chef-prepared food, this service delivers—pun intended.

It’s also a solid option if you’re focused on weight loss or healthier eating habits. Cook Unity offers meals specifically designed to be low-calorie, low-carb or GLP-1 balanced, which can align well with weight management goals. In our case, my wife and I have each lost about five pounds over the past three weeks, thanks to the combination of Cook Unity meals, intermittent fasting and exercise.

As foodies, we love the convenience and diversity of the meals delivered to our doorstep. If you’re tired of cooking or want to upgrade your weeknight dinners without breaking the bank, Cook Unity is worth a try—especially with the generous first-time discounts.

FAQs

Is Cook Unity expensive?

It’s more affordable than eating out and can be cheaper than groceries, especially with promotions. Without promos, meals start around $11-$14 each, with premium dishes costing a bit more.

What’s the best way to prepare Cook Unity meals?

Most meals are microwaveable, but for best results, use a toaster oven, air fryer or regular oven to preserve texture—especially for dishes with breading. Soups and stews are best reheated on the stovetop.

No, Cook Unity makes its meals with fresh ingredients by professional chefs. While pre-cooked, they’re not highly processed in the way frozen dinners or fast food are. Cook Unity also provides ingredients and nutrition info for transparency.

Is Cook Unity good for weight loss?

It can be! Cook Unity offers low-calorie, low-carb, keto and GLP-1 balanced options. If you’re watching calories or macros, you can filter meals accordingly. In three weeks, I lost five pounds with the combination of eating Cook Unity meals, using time-restricted eating (IF) and going to the gym four days a week.
