Your Guide to Leather Care
How to clean leather
First off, to clean leather, remove any dust or dirt with a soft, dry cloth. Next, wipe all over with a leather cleaning solution with a cloth. A little bit goes a long way, so you only need to dampen your cloth a little. Gently wipe the surface of your leather clothing and items in circular, small motions. Be careful not to scrub; you don’t want to ruin the material.
After you’re done, take a cloth and damp it with water to wipe away any leftover cleaning residue. Then, pat your items dry with a cloth and let them air dry in a cool, dry place. This is key to maintaining your leather. Storing in a place that’s too hot can ruin the material over time. As for using leather conditioner, we recommend using it every few months or so, or when your leather clothing and items are starting to look too dry and need a refresh.
How to take care of leather
While cleaning is essential, maintaining leather is also important. For starters, storage is the most important factor. All leather, regardless of whether it’s shoes, jackets or handbags, needs to be stored in a cool, dry place. This will prevent your leather from cracking, becoming too dry, getting stiff or looking dull. And it helps to maintain its flexibility. With that being said, you also need to keep your items directly away from sunlight and out of rooms or areas with extreme heat.
Regularly dust your items with a microfiber cloth to make sure they don’t accumulate dust or dirt. If you spill something on it, clean it immediately. And try to deep clean it at least every six months. It might be tempting to throw that jacket in the wash, but leather clothing and materials should never go in a washing machine. It’ll deteriorate the material. Never use detergent, bleach, regular soap or harsh cleaners on leather and avoid heavy items that’ll stretch out the material.
