Over the last few years, I’ve started budgeting my money and looking for ways to save. One of the best ways I found is to shop for better deals on cell phone and internet service. You’ve likely seen Ryan Reynolds promoting Mint Mobile, so I decided to give it a go.

If you’re looking to save a ton of money on your cell phone bill, Mint has an incredible promotion for new customers: You can get an unlimited data plan for 50% off, or just $15 per month, when you prepay for a 12-month plan. Even at the full price of $30 per month, that’s still a great deal compared to the big carriers.

One of the main selling points of Mint, at least to me, was that Mint uses the same T-Mobile network I was already on. Before switching, I confirmed with customer service that my speeds would be identical, and they are. I’ve had the service for 10 months and haven’t noticed any difference in coverage or quality.

While I used a different promotion, I went from a monthly bill of $130 for two lines to $35. There were some additional fees and taxes, but my annual bill was still under $500. That means I saved over $1,000 in just one year. For reference, the Mint Mobile unlimited service plan includes unlimited talk, text and data, although speeds may slow after 40 GB of use. Personally, I only used around 5 GB and my wife used about 15 GB, which kept us comfortably within the high-speed limit.

You may lose a few extras connected to your old plan, so make sure to double-check with your provider if you rely on perks like streaming subscriptions. In our case, we didn’t use most of T-Mobile’s bundled services, so switching made sense. Just note that if you financed your phone through your current provider, you’ll need to pay it off before switching.

One feature I did miss from T-Mobile was international service. But Mint offers flexible international passes (one, three, 10 or 30 days), which worked well for us. My wife is from Mexico City and we visit twice a year, and the add-on handled our needs just fine.

If you’re tired of a bloated cell phone bill, it might be time to make the switch to Mint and start saving. I did, and I have zero regrets.
