While I do consider myself a (very mature) gamer, I didn’t get my first good keyboard for gaming. Instead, I got it because I’m a writer and when I tried someone else’s, there was no way I could go back to cheap, mushy-feeling keyboards. Now I have at least seven of them, from the Asus ROG Strix (25% off) I’m typing this with, to the NZXT Function 2 (50% off, darn it) I got this summer to match my all-white personal computer build, the compact Keychron K6 (30% off) I take with me when I travel and the massive Corsair K70 (not on sale, thank goodness) I have on my household’s second gaming PC.
Sometimes I even like to swap one out for the Logitech Pro X ($10 off) I also got this year. It is possible I have a problem. But what I don’t have—yet—is one of SteelSeries’ fantastic Apex series. That’s about to change, because I am not about to pay full price for a keyboard YET AGAIN, when I could be getting one for 50% off. It’s not clear if this is a limited-time Amazon Prime Big Deal Days deal, but I’m not going to risk it either way.
My only real issue is that there are two variants for 50% off, this wireless Apex Pro TKL version without a number pad (“TKL” means “Tenkeyless” in leet gamer/keyboard nerd speak); and a full size (with number pad) wired Apex Pro for even less. Both of them are premium keyboards that normally sell for $200 or more, and share fast, responsive keys that use HyperMagnetic switches, allowing you to fine tune your button presses. They also have a super cool little OLED display, amazing build quality and terrific lighting.
I didn’t make up the “amazing” part. One review says, “I’ve been using this keyboard for a year now, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The amazing build quality has held up perfectly over time.” Another from this summer adds, “I would tell my past self to purchase this sooner…if you have the money, buy it.”
Fortunately, with 50% off on both wired and wireless versions of the SteelSeries Apex keyboard in different sizes, if you’re ever going to have the money, either for yourself or the gamer in your life, that time is now.
